Now I have decided to defiantly print on paper not fabric I have
been deciding how to display this in the exhibition and been to shops such as paper
chase and John Lewis to see how paper print like wrapping paper and wallpaper
is displayed. I did like paper chases displays on horizontal rails but did not
know how this would work for the exhibition. I thought back to the MMU degree
show and remembered Abigail Huttons display of prints and I really liked her
wallpaper just pinned up on the wall in large scale.
Here are very rough sketches of how I then decided how to
print them.
I chose to do 2 large scale and the rest smaller, this is
because I’m unsure how much space we will have in the exhibition so can’t have
them all large scale.
I then edited my prints all day to adjust them for the scale
of printing and colours for the printers and used the large format printer for
the first time. Fortunately this went well first time which I didn’t expect. If
I could have chosen the large scale printing paper I think I’d have gone for a thicker
paper but still I am happy with the matte paper it’s on.
The others are printed on a3 size from the normal printers
which I did think were a bit shiny compared to my large scale ones so I went to
the a4 and more to try and use a matte. The matte from these printers unfortunately
dulled the colours so much I went for the shinier ones in the end anyway.
I pinned up my work in the studio to see how it would look
in the exhibition if I have the size area I would like. I am pleased with how
it looks on the wall and very pleased with my prints from the large format
printers, I think it really shows how they’d look as a wallpaper.
From this unit I have found group tutorials really helpful
especially how we showed everyone our work, I have always discussed my work with
friends and got feedback and advice off them but now I feel like I know their
style of work it was great to see everyone’s differences. I also liked having
the 2 girls from fashion in drawing and film with us and how Mary would ask
them what they would be doing now if this was a fashion brief, I liked knowing
how they progressed through the units usually. I do feel like I initially felt
lost being in such a broad group where we had the chance to produce any kind of
work as appose to everyone making a garment or everyone creating a film but now
I look back I feel like it has been a great way to experiment with no restrictions.
This has paid off for me as I’ve never used Photoshop before or drawn the way I
have this time and did not think I could produce work like this that was not textural.
