Techniques for sampling

This week I have been pushing techniques into my knits inspired from my drawings, including my colour pallet crossing over. To replicate the dots I use in my drawings I have created a mesh look through lace holes using a thicker cotton so it’s clear. I think this works really well with showing my sports target yet still subtle for it to be fashion wear. I will be continuing this technique through to final samples.

I have done elongated stitches on the domestic machine to express the stripes shown in a vibrant teal colour. This boosts my knits colours nicely. I would like to continue this in my final samples but perhaps weave in some cords to give it a more contemporary look. I really like using the lycra to pull in the fabric to give it more dimension and break up colour into blocks similar to my drawings and contextual research. Although I was happy with monophilaments when I tested yarns, I have decided not to use it because I think a lot of my peers have started to and I don't want my work looking similar to others.

When doing my technical samples on the dubied machines I realised it could give my work more of a connection to my contectual research and drawings. I would like to try the finer gauge machines because I feel the 7 is just as chunky as the domestics which doesn’t relate to my other work well.
