Yarns and Foil testing

I have been experimenting with yarns to see how I can show sportswear through my samples, a monophilament gives a really good net/transparent look, cottons looked great when knitted and dense, and acrylic was not right for the look I wanted. It was too soft and limp. Lycra was great to give it more dimension by bringing it in to give the yarn surrounding it a puffed look. I will definitely be using lycra a lot for this. I also found different yarns in a book I got that said tubular was used in summer, I assumed it would be breathable like sportswear, it gave a great tight knit that was very stretchy.

I have dyed some of my own yarns also, mainly cottons and one went great. The perfect shade of blue I wanted and the other slightly to green than I was wanting but I really enjoyed using the dye lab for the first time.

To try and give my work the metallic look I’ve got in my drawings and contextual research I have tried foiling. I tried it on a few different yarns I’d like to use to see how it looks and I’m really pleased with the outcome. I will definitely use this technique in my samples.
