With this unit we have been asked to write our own project
proposal, I originally was very excited for this but through beginning my research
I felt overwhelmed with where to take my work and unsure of how I’d like
it to go. I began by looking into Pinterest to see if an image would spark an
idea of some kind. I found some images of faces with layers of contours lines
on top and found them interesting but wasn't overly excited about it. I had
also been looking into shape and structure of waves and fluidity aspects.
My tutor suggested focusing on the contouring more so than
faces and expressions which I felt much more excited about and how broad it is. This week I have
been researching contoured lines and where to find them such as mapping and structure of objects and food like mushrooms.
I really loved the work by James Nares and his mark making.
I loved the linear parts of his fluid drawings reminding me of the contoured shapes and the uncontrolled aspect. I
began drawing from these and became quite graphic in the way I was working. In
my first year I was told by a tutor I have an illustrative style of drawing so
I have looked into children’s illustrations to try and push this style.
