This week I have been experimenting with initial sampling
for my self-initiated work, I tried techniques such as drop stitches of
sections to create movement and interrupted stripe similar to my drawing. Unfortunately
because I tried this with a silk it didn't have the effect I wanted and was too
floppy. I worked a lot with ripple which I think works very well but would be
better when manipulated with stitch, I also thought if I could inlay with wire
it would add to the structure similar to my visual research and context
research.
I inlayed a plain stitch with plastic while being closed in
with lycra, this gave the inlay an unusual movement I really liked. I tried it
also with a monophilament which didn't have the same effect. I am really
pleased with the movement it has made however I do not like the messiness it
creates in the sample. I will try and develop this further to create a look I am
more pleased with.
This technique has reminded me of Nathan Lyles grad show in
2013.

I am really pleased with using drop stitch as a technique, I
feel like there is so much you can do and it creates a lovely uncontrolled tone
in the fabric and less of a neat stripe. I’m also pleased with knitting single
and double bed in contrast to create a shape, I think this could be improved on
my including foiling.
I have struggled a lot with my colour pallet this week
trying out the different yarns but my tutor has helped me in my weekly tutorial
on improving on this. I need to use cleaner colours to link with my sketchbook
and play around with proportions more.
