I began thinking how to translate the components I like from
the images into drawings, I used lots of transparent layering using acetate and
tracing paper which Rihanna suggested I continue with and they were my
strongest drawings. I tried different perspectives of ‘urban’ through drawing
maps of built up areas, buildings from the street, people, buildings from a
view of a far and abstract building lines to see what I wanted to refine to. I
got a lot of good feedback from the map drawings I have done from peers and
Rhianna’s feedback session but I personally don’t think it’s a route id like my
work to go down. I found they had a geometrical feel and I think I have already
experimented with this area in the past.
I always find group tutorials very helpful and feel much
better about moving my work on after them, I work in a group in the studio but
I feel like it benefits everyone seeing other peers work from different textile
areas and work that you’ve not seen before. It can be very inspiring to try
something new. From one of the other girls work I was influenced to try a
digital approach and tried layering my images to see what different view I
could create. I enjoyed working digitally but felt I was a bit restricted
because I don’t know how to use the processes very well.
