This week was my first tutorial with my specialised area
tutor, I feel like I’ve been struggling this past week with how to move my work
on. I think it was getting repetitive and not developing. I also felt like
everyone’s work was looking the same, drawing buildings which I didn’t like. For
the next unit I will definitely choose a brief more challenging and less
popular because of this. After seeing Laura I feel so much better, I have been
working off different sized loose sheets to decide on what size sketchbook to
get. Laura suggested A3 so I can include more than one of my drawings on one
page and include yarn wrappings and images next to drawings. I was also asked
to create a mind map of what I think or others think from the phrase ‘urban
influences’.
Doing this has really moved my work on, I am now going
towards the concept of; perspective, people, crowds, movement, life style,
composition, abstract, buildings materials and texture.
Still continuing with layering I am working from Margaret
Berkes work, from her men in hats photographs taken in New York. I love the
composition of the crowds and the angle the image has been taken from. I am
layering this on top of block abstract building shapes with neutral colours
taken from building materials including the copper building in Salford keys I
found during initial research. I feel I am really refining my concept now.
