I have really enjoyed this week playing and experimenting
with techniques and colour for my branding project, from looking into
collections from Chloe further and into more detail focusing on techniques I have
recognized they use a lot of continuous technique on one garment. In particular
a full top of rib. They also have a lot of woven fabrics amongst their
collections throughout seasons so I tried to replicate this through inlaying on
the dubied machines but still showing the detail in my drawing through placement
of mock rib. I am really pleased with this technique for the collection but
felt it is quite flat for autumn winter.
I really enjoyed working with mohair and would like to continue
this, I think it works well with the Chloe brand being known for their
femininity and sophistication. It is a lovely luxurious yarn to emphasise this.
I have also tried techniques like creating a tassel down a
sample to replicate Chinese lanterns but was unhappy with the aesthetics of
this and felt it was a bit too young looking for the style I was aiming for, I tried
pleating on the dubied machines as well to try and create a frill look for femininity
and structure of oriental fans but I did not like how it pinched in the fabric
and changed the shape of the sample because I would like a cleaner look through
the collection of square, neat fabrics emphasising the colour and technique instead
of a shape focused collection. I also think this would help when they are used
to create the garment as Chloe often have square, over size, autumn winter
garments and pleating would change this.
I have also experimented with creating more body and texture
in my samples through using pockets and stuffing them which I think gave the
fabric a beautiful structural look and reminded me of a Chloe coat from their ‘Fall
2014 collection. I will continue developing this sample through placement and size
in my final sampling. Plaiting has also given a look I am aesthetically pleased
with as I think the specs of colour replicate my drawing details well.
