Bradford Textile brief

From the work I have created over summer, based on the concept of ‘Imperfections’, I  feel needs to be moved onto a different direction. I think this because my work has come to a stand still, I have been struggling to move this concept deeper and further to progress my visuals. In my first personal tutorial we began deconstructing the elements I most felt inspired by through this work. In doing this I have been inspired by mark making, blemish, uncontrolled, deconstructed, abstraction and elements. To move this on further I worked on some initial drawings and visual research of deconstruction and elements within an object.

To look into this idea of ‘elements of natural structures’ I have been looking into forecasting books in the library such as “Bloom” magazine. Their imagery is beautiful and the way they capture flowers through photography.

I was particularly interested in this image. I think the use of repetition is inspiring as well as the use of colour.

The colours shown through the negative style image has led me on to Berta Fischer’s installation work with plastics. With the look of colour on colour in slightly different tones being similar to the forecasting image with brighter edges. I am inspired to translate this into brighter trims or colour on colour knit techniques.

Lucy Simpsons weaving with a use of silicone has inspired me to consider other material with my work. I would like to use this first short 4 week project as a great opportunity to really experiment with in my work.

I have been exploring colour a lot more than I ever have done as a way to improve my use of it. I have been using very bright bold colour with in this short project as it’s something I feel I struggle with.
